In April 2025 West Lancashire Borough Council approved plans to reorganise its workplaces including the relocation of the Council’s Derby Street offices to Skelmersdale. The planned reduction in office space will cut the Council’s costs as well as its carbon footprint.
The land that will become available at Derby Street will, subject to planning permission, allow the building of new, much-needed homes for residents. The development would bring investment into the immediate area and support the ongoing upkeep and improvement of local infrastructure. Its location close to existing amenities means future residents would be well connected to shops, services, schools, and public transport, helping to support local businesses and facilities that the community already relies on. By bringing new residents into the area, the proposals would also contribute positively to Ormskirk’s local economy.
Plans are being drawn for the development of approximately 60 modern, energy-efficient homes designed to sit comfortably within the existing area. These homes would be built to current standards, helping to reduce energy use and household running costs while contributing to a more sustainable local environment.
If the proposals move forward, careful consideration will be given to matters such as design, access, privacy, and the impact on neighbouring properties.
The proposals are as follows:
